Dung Beetles

Dung beetles can aid in the control of buffalo flies as part of an integrated approach. They also reduce challenge from other parasites that grow in dung such as bushflies, biting midges and gastrointestinal parasites. However very large populations of dung beetles are required before reductions in buffalo fly populations are observed and the introduction of dung beetles will seldom be sufficient to keep buffalo fly numbers below economic thresholds without the use of other control methods.
